MFW Troll Filter FAQ
For Microsoft Windows Users
MFW (misc.fitness.weights) has always had
trolls.
Unfortunately, the current trolls have become unusually persistent; they
appear to be truly dedicated to destroying the newsgroup or forcing
newsgroup discussion to conform to their preconceived ideals. Therefore,
Rusty Iron will now, and for the
foreseeable future, offer this FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page on
methods for efficiently and effectively isolating trolls while retaining
valuable and/or entertaining newsgroup discussion. The methods discussed in
this FAQ are not necessarily the best methods for isolating trolls; however,
I have found them to be optimal for anyone who uses the most common MS
Windows newsreaders, regardless of which news server or supplementary
software one may have available.

Observations by Fitnwell:
John Williams' work above is a complete and utter waste of effort and
does nothing to address the problems his self-appointed task set out to
redress. The fact is that Mr Williams is himself the most prolific troll and
troll enabler, that MFW has ever known. He has used this opportunity to
attempt to retrieve his former prominence in the Group, and to further
discredit those that oppose his megalomania.

freak at MFW, who has a very exaggerated sense of ability and importance
and is ever anxious to air his pseudo knowledge. An obsessive person who takes
all forms of disagreement or criticism very personally, and will hoard
personal information about his perceived enemies to use against them. A
persistent and insidious "cyber-stalker"
who likes to hurt people and pursue them, he
is a rabble-rouser who encourages strife and seeks constant support for
his many feuds with other people. To be avoided.

Posting Characteristics: A rather unintelligent man who only
makes this list because his prolific trolling is as the result of his
slavish support for John Williams. Most of his input is childish
name-calling and he is dedicated to discrediting the enemies of his
hero. His input is mostly embarrassing as he is not particularly
articulate, and he is woefully repetitive and has no sense of humour. He
is without doubt a troll, but a very boring and spiteful example of the

Troll Enablers

Troll enablers aren't necessarily
trolls. They
are fond of trolls, though. For some reason, they find an ongoing
discourse with trolls to be stimulating. This results in encouragement
of trolls who might otherwise be isolated. Although these troll enablers
may not be intentionally destructive toward the newsgroup, they often
become agitated when someone suggests that they cease accommodating
known trolls. Sometimes, in order to isolate the trolls, their enablers
must also be isolated. But be careful! Troll enablers may become even
more angry and vengeful when you threaten to ignore them.
Deciding who is and is not a troll enabler is a matter of personal
judgment. I have found that filtering the following email addresses in
MFW has substantially reduced the repartee between the trolls and those
who encourage them:
